Dulatica

The New Age Kingdom

Dulatica is the second most Northern region of mainland Ithuan, a key battle ground for the Spirit War, and home to the largest populations of humans and elves. The Kingdom works as a network of Baronies and outpost cities that supply the entire territory with a variety of resources.

Dulaticans speak primarily common, and are generally friendly towards most other races, although are often suspicious of residents of Furusato, due to their more militaristic tendencies, and of Kelratrans, due to the statements made with regards to them by the High Elves of Dulatica. As with most humans, Dulaticans live under a century, although some live notably longer if they have elven and half elven heritage.

Throughout history, Dulatica was a disorganized jumble of territories and baronies. During the aftermath of the Spirit War however, the Realm of Nexus, known as the King’s City used the influence, power, and reputation they gained for their victories in the war to begin taking some of the other territories into the fold. They offered protection, and built more roads with guarded checkpoints all across their domain, creating a network of trade routes, and safe havens, effectively making them the premiere owner of roadways along with granting them increased access and mobility to all the territories under their control. Eventually, the vast majority of the human inhabited cities and towns came under the rule of Nexus, thus creating the New Age Kingdom. They have close ties with the High Elves of the Moonsilver Dynasty.

Training

Education

The various regions of the New Age Kingdom focus on different areas of history and different crafts. Farming, building, and weaving is often more heavily encouraged then more niche professions. Children are usually home schooled outside of major cities such as Nexus, Daydon, and Nightport.

Spellcraft and healing are rare, and military trainings are considered advanced, and although only a select few are capable and chosen to be trained as full Knights of the Crown, most citizens can be enlisted as a soldier in the case of a full scale conflict.

Nexus is the site of the oldest, largest, and most traveled portal to and from the mythic Scathe Academy, an extra dimensional university specializing in scholarly arts, and particularly spellcraft. The best and brightest from all around Ithuan hope to be accepted to the ancient institution, and the Royalty of Nexus has been considered to have a good overall relationship with the school for the past several centuries.

Combat

In Ithuan, the primary fighting, defending, and law enforcement unit are the Knights of the Crown. While lesser factions of warriors exist, such as the fearsome Nightwatch in the province of Nightport, or groups of guards and soldiers individual barons command, the Knights of the Crown are by far the best trained, and most capable of these varied groups.

These highly organized specialists are each trained in weapons of their choice including short swords, claymores, longswords, shields, spears, glaives, bows, crossbows, morning stars, maces, battle axes, halberds, and pikes. They dress in polished armor bearing white and dark blue fabrics that signify their allegiance. Various ranks have discerning features, and all display the symbol of the Lion, Dragon, and Wolf proudly on both their tunics, and their armor. This is the Regal Chimera, the sigil of the New Age Kingdom. The Knights come from all corners of Dulatica and Ithuan as a whole, and live in varied regions. However they all are answerable ultimately to the King and the Supreme Commander, who dwell in Nexus.

The Knights operate on a structure defined by ranks, but only loosely organized most of the time, responding to threats as needed with overwhelming skill, and a grandiose authority and presence.

  • Private: The new-bloods of the Knights, these are squires or freshly knighted warriors who have yet to establish themselves fully as a Knight of the Crown.

  • Sergeant: Established Knights and the lowest rank of honored Knight, a Sergeant is seen as an experienced, and noble member of the Knights of the Crown, although they aren’t seen as anything special.

  • Lieutenant: Recognized for skill and accomplishment, a Lieutenant of the Knights are often well respected by those under their protection, and may be a well known individual throughout the region. They often take squires, and act as the leaders of groups performing standard duties, like in-city patrols, or perimeter guards.

  • Captain: A warrior of distinction, and feats of heroism, a Captain of the Crown, is a highly honored rank among the Knights, and they often are bestowed mythral implements, enchanted armor, or primordial weapons as symbols of the position. These warriors are in charge of overseeing groups of other knights, and organizing the troops for their superiors. These Knights are figures of significance in their region, and are seen as local heroes.

  • Major: A Knight of this rank is charged with the command of the Knights operating within a Barony, and work with the Baron in order to align themselves to the martial and political needs of the region. They are selected from the Captains for their leadership skills, and their charisma. While often roughly equal to their immediate subordinates in skill, their decisions are treated with great respect. They are a household name in their region of operation.

  • General: The commanders of the Knights within a region, there are usually no more than three generals in Dulatica, sending marching orders to the soldiers of multiple baronies. Their duties also include organizing the defenses of Nexus itself, and training enlisted soldiers in the case of a major conflict. They are distinguished by embellished and decorated armor that signifies their rank, and their higher station. They are appointed from Majors and Captains by the Supreme Commander.

  • Supreme Commander/Grand Crownguard: The highest ranking member of the Knights of the Crown and personal advisor, strategist, and enforcer of the King himself, the Supreme Commander is chosen for their position from among the Majors and Generals, with each of the Knights that wish to vie for the position required to appear in Nexus. They display their skills, talents, and combat prowess completing and competing in duels against one another, races, obstacle courses, beast fighting, and military exorcises that test their abilities as a leader, fighter, strategist, and person. This process can take anywhere from a week to a month, at the end of which the Knight with most impressive feats, or the most victories, is chosen. If there is a tie or a dispute the King selects the Supreme Commander from among the top performers personally.

Medicine

Most medicine is provided by the Church of Methaeus, and the clerics that follow it. Particularly skilled clerics make the medical capabilities of the New Age Kingdom the best among the modern human cultures and nations. Their grasp of herbal, and divine healing is excellent, and Methaeus’s favor for Nexus is a boon that these clerics greatly enjoy. Clerics of Lith, Zek, and Feritho also act as healers, but aren’t able to mobilize and spread to the same degree as the Church of Methaeus.

Daily Life

The people of the New Age Kingdom are mostly farmers or traders, and commerce is extremely important to their society. They’re known as the Merchant Empire, as the trade routes, unions, and varied yields from their wide range of territories and baronies gives Dulatica’s human kingdom a huge advantage when it comes to economic success. While poverty remains an issue for some, as long as the routes stay open, and goods are sold, the New Age Kingdom is unshakable. They have a well mixed diet of various foods, depending on the region. As well, they tend to have a disposition towards suspicion directed at Gorgabad and Kelratra, as their history with the former and rumors surrounding the latter leads to fear and distrust of outsiders among the less educated. Those in power suspect that only one of these poses a real threat to them, but the paranoia hasn’t completely spared the nobles either.

Government

The King of Nexus rules the whole New Age Kingdom, through it’s the Barons which act as the governors and political leaders of each province from a city or large town. The King rules with three advisors. The first of these is the Archmage of Nexus, an exceptional magic caster who advises the King on history, magic, and economic policy. The second is the Supreme Commander of the Knights of the Crown, the military advisor, giving insight on strategy, foreign policy, crime, and resource management. Lastly is the Oracle of Nexus, a cleric of one of the gods gifted with divine insight or skilled in divination, advising the King on astral, religious, prophetic, and philosophical matters. In addition, the King’s policies are subject to review by an Arbiter, an official that acts as the representative of a Baron in Nexus. Before the King can pass a law, it must be approved by a majority of the Arbiters. Arbiters are elected diplomats, though the process of election varies from province to province.

Religion & Holidays

There is a wide variety of holidays and religions present in the New Age Kingdom due to its large territorial expanse and rather new formation. The primary religion revolves around the Church of Methaeus which is devoted to the destruction of darkness as well as the triumph of light. Their holidays are based around past victories of Methaeus, as well as the worship of his court.

Architecture

The architecture of Dulatica is often somewhat gothic, especially in large cities, meanwhile many smaller provinces feature simpler stone buildings, and more basic medieval architecture as opposed to the archways, and towering ramparts or mansions of the social centers of the Kingdom. These can vary from region to region depending on environmental needs.
