The Consumed

The fear of darkness haunts many youngsters, but only the most intrepid occult scholars know that these fears are founded in reality. The darkness hungers, not for sustenance, but for corruption. Minds, souls, and bodies, devoured by ethereal shadows. Beings twisted by deep and extended contact with primeval darkness become changed. Not even gods are immune to this sort of corruption, as both Gothrag and Iquatet have been Consumed, as exempified by Gothrag’s flames burning black as Night, and Iquatet being a scion of dread magic. In addition the Queen of Blood is teetering on the edge of being Consumed by the darkness she herself consumed. This process varies from one affected individual to the next, but this effect can be spread to a lessened degree across whole planes with enough power. Only one being has show itself able to accomplish this feat, Azerack.

The Night Parade of 100 Yōkai

In the mystical land of Furusato many groups and monsters exist, but these legends fail to hold the same type of dread as a newly arisen power. Since its inception, the most powerful Yōkai Lord has held the position of Supreme Commander of all yōkai. Several decades ago, the previous Supreme Commander was slain by Umi-Ryū after defeating Kage-Ryū, and soon thereafter a replacement arose. This Yōkai Lord’s name was Nurarihyon, and he was a clever trickster and an unpredictable being of chaos. Through his power and charisma, he gathered a mob of yōkai from all walks of life, and united them beneath a number of strange banners, carried by the most fearsome among the force. He named it the Night Parade, and from then onwards they began to riot and terrorize the midnight streets of Furusato in a sick form of celebration and jollity. Not even the strongest Kami are willing to put a stop to it, as Nurarihyon seems content to use this power for his own entertainment, rather than conquest and murder. But all those within Furusato fear what could be if the Supreme Commander turned his crowd of spirits into a weapon to be wielded against the traditions and people of the region, with many worried that not even the Onmyōji would be able to stop such an onslaught were it to come to pass.

The Wyld Hunt

Amongst the Fae, few orders can claim infamy akin to that of the Courts, and yet, there is one group that transcends such boundaries. The Wyld Hunt was founded by Mabuka, First Born of Lith, first to cement her authority, and then to capture Cernunnos, the slippery Archfae that she had fallen in love with and wanted for her own. From there she made the Hunt an infamous group of skilled Fae. When she had a son, at the behest of her mother and numerous other Archfae she took him along with a pair of faerie siblings that showed remarkable prowess as her pupils. After two centuries of tutorage under the Queen of Air and Darkness, she declared them the Lords of the Hunt. These three were Oberon, her son, with the animal symbol of the Bear. Oberon was strong and relentless, but also proud and self indulgent, and though he is the most powerful Lord, he does far less to maintain an active Hunt, preferring to recruit members of his Court when need arises. Second is the elder of the two siblings, Elerid Huntmaster, a powerful and clever Archfae called the Wolf. He keeps a massive Hunt at his beck and call, maintaining a village known as Wolfsstadt and a Hunt of over two hundred members. Lastly is the younger sister Jägerin Huntmaster, known as the Fox. Jägerin is a witty and skillful huntress who prefers traps and planning to raw strength or numbers to take down her prey. Though the Hunt is varied, it is strong and a renowned part of Fae culture. On various holidays or solstices, they travel to mortal planes and hunt down legendary animals or other beings that cross their path or draw their ire. They are viewed with respect and fear wherever they tread.

Artifacts

The Sword of Gorgabad

Forged of darksteel and wrath, the Sword of Gorgabad is a divine weapon quenched in the ichor of a god slain by its blade. This weapon is an extension and amplifier for the power of its wielder, but it is bathed in corruption and bloodshed. The Sword was made by Gothrag the Warlord God under the supervision of Azerack. The blade allows him to slay immortal beings and channel devastating energy that can level cities and armies, at the cost of temporarily burning away an amount of Gothrag’s essence. At full power it has split continents, severed leylines, destroyed celestials, and permanently cut out the eye of a Major Goddess with one blow. At the end of the Spirit War, the blade was left embedded in a canyon created where it struck the ground of Gorgabad.

Staff of the Endless Abyss

A twisted gold and demonic iron weapon with a large ruby in the center of its shaft, this gilded and decorated iron implement is considered among the most powerful channeling artifacts in the universe. When he created demons, Asharderis stabbed his head with a ruby spike he conjured, releasing his divine ichor, and causing his conceptual energy to give life to his nightmarish children. Later, he shaped that spike into a gem he set into the center of his staff. Now the Staff is intricately connected to the twisted realm known as the Endless Abyss. The one who wields it can manifest their will to whatever extent the magic around them can allow. As well, the Staff creates its own miniature “Nexus” that makes it much harder to overcome the wielder in a contest of spellcasting. But most interestingly, it holds near absolute control over the geography and space within the Endless Abyss itself. It is the source of much jealousy within the demonic hierarchy, as Asharderis has invested a great deal of his power and essence within it, meaning essentially any Demon Lord that wields it and attunes to it can become the King of Demons.

Aerious’s Metal Arm

Forged from an alloy of darksteel and mythral, the two hardest metals known in the universe, Aerious created herself a new arm after losing hers in battle. The inner workings are a complex clockwork with tubes of magical and alchemical fluids, primarily liquefied mana. The arm acts as a Nexus-attuning device, and a spellcasting amplifier for Aerious. This unique prosthetic is highly advanced, robust, and a somewhat finicky piece of mystical hardware. While remarkably powerful, it is also incredibly intricate and has been difficult to replicate for lesser artificers, especially the creation of the alloy it’s made of.

Tome of Deans

Maintaining the massive school that is Scathe University requires a great deal of control and power. This is accomplished by powerful spellcasters assisted by the Tome of Deans, a mystical book that contains a plethora of information and records for the school along with maps of the school and the rift in reality it resides in. This would be useful on its own, but the book also acts as a magical amplifier that also allows the user to manipulate reality within the school, such as adding new wings, rooms, floors, or even using teleportation to summon teachers or students who are wearing their school ring and in specific locations. Only an individual wearing a Dean’s ring currently attuned to the Tome can use it, preventing troublesome students or summoned demons from controlling the entire school.

The Dragon Blades

Forged from essence, these unique weapons were created by the Ryū of Furusato. They are magical blades with sacred significance, holding the most power while in Furusato itself. They can cut through the Spirit World and draw power through it, and even can cut beings in the other realm while in the opposite plane. Each of the blades is a unique weapon that is highly sought after by warriors from Furusato and beyond, as they bring a level of infamy and respect that many would covet.

  • Koun-Ryū has the Luck Wakazashi

  • Kage-Ryū had the Tantō of Darkness

  • Tsuki-Ryū uses the Moon Bow

  • Ame-Ryū uses the Sky Nagamaki

  • Yuki-Ryū uses the Ice Naginata

  • Umi-Ryū has the Typhoon Odachi

  • Netsu-Ryū holds the Flame Katana

  • Iwa-Ryū used the Stone Yari

Primal Weapons

A fascinating type of artifact, a primal weapon uses relatively simple binding magics in order to bind minor- or midrange-elementals to a mythral weapon. These swords are among the most common and most popular magical blades because they can summon up bursts of magical power focused into silvery elemental energy. However, they are still relatively rare and requires mastery of the forge to create. The blades are used by dragonslayers, paladins, adventurers, and nobles. The method was first introduced by Motsognir, the Dwarf God of the Forge, who proudly displays his skills in the craft to this day.

Phoenix Set

A set made up of a rapier, dueling scarf, two scimitars, and a set of light armor. The armor was enchanted by splitting and siphoning the essence of a powerful, dying member of the Elemental Court, who wielded great power over flames and smoke. This set is treasured by other primal spirits of fire and the Inksage orders, particularly the Flame Order. The armor and weapons can be used individually, or together, generating flames and whirling heat around themselves and their wielder. The full set grants the wearer near complete immunity to fire and a massive well of power to draw magical power and pure fire from.
