Primary Magics
This cosmology chart is the most widely accepted by magical scholars in Mundus Mutans. A few major correlations exist between the aspects of magic pictured here and the primary schools of magic as described below, though the field remains an active study.
Primal Magic
Primal Magic is specifically drawn from, or enhanced by, forces of or locations inherently connected to primordial nature, especially with regards to Zek. Primal magic is also inherently connected to aspects of mortality and time. It is relatively uncommon and generally more powerful than other magics.
All practices of Primal Magic have a few common characteristics:
Uses the natural world directly, drawing on its essence
The least risky in terms of collateral damage, but relatively unreliable
Practitioners of Primal Magic may specialize in a few paths:
Elemental Magic
Time Magic
Druidic Magic
Solar/Lunar Magic
Innate Magics
Nexus Magic
Nexus Magic is specifically drawn from, or enhanced by, the Leyweb (also known as the Nexus) and/or enhanced by Methaeus. Nexus magic is inherently connected to the aspect of the Nexus, because it draws directly from it. It is the basis for most magical practices and common throughout Mundus Mutans.
All practices of Nexus Magic have a few common characteristics:
Specifically using or slightly bending natural laws as a means to an end
Somewhat risky but more reliable in terms of rules
Practitioners of Nexus Magic may specialize in a few paths:
Death Magic
Arcane Magic
Pyromancy
Kinetomancy
Electromancy
Dread Magic
Dread Magic is specifically drawn from, or enhanced by, Dalthnestar or Azerack, and is commonly associated with the Fallen Court. It’s characterized by a strict malevolence and contempt for life and the concept of “good.” Dread Magic is inherently connected to the aspect of Darkness due to its foul nature.
Dread Magic is widely regarded as forbidden and discouraged because of its malevolence.
Practitioners of Dread Magic may specialize in a few paths:
Eldritch Incantations
Corruption Magic
Life Draining Magic.
Necromancy
Sanguimancy
Void Magic
All practices of Dread Magic have a few common characteristics:
Specifically breaking and “reversing” natural laws (ie laws of physics).
Causing a lot of risky collateral damage because it breaks all rules
