Jersey Devil Squadron

There are few other teams in Terra that are as skilled, capable, and efficient as the Jersey Devils. Lead under veteran officer Lei Barren and performing multitudes of special operations gathering intelligence for the United Enrillian Taskforce (UET), the JDS is well known amongst the rest of the military for their reputation. What they don’t know are the people that make up this small found family of misfits.

 

Noctura Lumen

She's known by many titles: The Night Trader, Azure Demon, the Failed Lumen Experiment… but Noctura prefers the name she chose for herself. Noct refuses to let her trauma and her shortcomings define her, instead always striving to become better than the place she came from.

Special Abilities:

  • Noctura’s suit and implants grants her access to a number of abilities and tools

  • Night Trader Suit Mk I

    • Blasters built into hands, boots, and chest - Crescent Mark V equivalent

    • Plasma-Jet flight: using a combination of hovering Ruin tech and plasma jets, Noct can reach insane speeds in flight and often uses these jets to boost her combat and reaction speed

    • Kinetic Shields: Noct can generate a kinetic shield on either arm, which has razor-sharp edges and can function both offensively and defensively for melee

    • Blue Yokai: When all else fails, Noctura’s implants and suit have a subroutine that-- when triggered-- dulls her pain and emotions to nothing and fills her with adrenaline, essentially putting the computer in charge of her motivations, and restoring her to a high state of combat-readiness resulting in her being single-mindedly focused on the mission objective, no matter the morals or cost. All of her systems shut down for a few minutes to a few hours after this, depending on how long it is in effect, rendering her deaf and paralyzed again.

  • Implants and cybernetics 

    • Noctura has a number of neural implants to restore her movement and hearing, 

    • Her implants include a computer that gathers, analyzes, and displays data in real time to Noct’s surroundings. This allows her to anticipate and react to attacks at superhuman levels, as well as digitally communicate with others, and interact seamlessly with other technology. This all connects to a series of spinal ports that allow her to hook up within her suit, boosting her computing ability.  

    • Her implants also can deliver predetermined drugs to her system-- adrenaline, pain killers, or hormones that dull her emotions to nullification

  • Training

    • Hand to Hand Combat: Noctura has been trained from a very young age by Drakunov Reystar and Marcus Lumen to fight in multiple styles of martial arts, the most prominent being Jiu Jitsu, Tae Kwon Do, and Boxing.

    • Negotiation and Psychology: Noctura has been trained to analyze individuals and manipulate their mentality to suit her needs

    • Stealth: Noctura has been trained as a spy and assassin, and knows how to scout out locations, make kills, and get out without a trace

Pastimes: She likes to distract herself by training in the HoloGym (often sparring or using simulations to challenge herself), exploring the city and climbing buildings (illegally), and listening to music and dancing. She’s not a very vocal person, but she enjoys moving around.

Drakunov Raystar

The Raystar name is well known amongst the public, largely thanks to the scandal that resulted from Drakunov’s departure from Lumen. Now, he’s an independent contractor, taking whatever chance he can to hinder the work of his brother Roman, and reclaim what was taken from him.

Profession: Inventor, Strategist, Assassin, Leader

Conditions: Alcoholic, Painkiller Addiction, Nanite Buildup

Wealth: Wealthy

Equipment: Nanite Syringes, Sunglasses, 4 combat knives, two custom shotguns, utility belt, grapple gun, old Lumen Corp. eyepiece, wrist computer (controls nanites), grenades, quarterstaff/stun batons.

Special Abilities:

  • Martial Arts Training: Drakunov is a sixth degree black belt in taekwondo, and has used it against hostile opponents in a real world setting.

  • Computer Experience: Drakunov is a programmer, and a computer and technology expert.

  • Assassin Training: Drakunov is trained in stealth and killing, extremely adept at these applications of his skills, he is very dangerous, and uses pressure points, and biological weaknesses against his foes.

  • Super Strength: Drakunov’s nanite injections allow him to move up to 700 pounds.

  • Enhanced Endurance: Drakunov’s muscles don’t produce as many exhaustion toxins as normal people because the nanites keep his bloodstream clear of them. So he can keep going longer and harder than others.

  • Poison Resistance: Toxins have a lessened affect on Drakunov as the nanites are capable of recognizing some and reacting to them.

  • Rapid Healing: Drakunov’s heals from wounds much faster than normal humans do, and broken bones heal in a matter of a couple days rather than weeks.

  • Magic Sense: Drakunov can faintly sense strong magical anomalies.

  • Pain Resistant: Due to his consumption of painkillers, Drakunov’s sense of pain is decreased.

Pastimes: Drakunov spends time training with other fighters, studying how to improve his nanites, and strategizing. He enjoys drinking with friends, and jogging.

 

Dr. Marigold Tarim-Raystar

Mari never introduces herself using her father’s name. Much like her uncle Drakunov, she holds Roman with contempt. Her father was largely absent through her childhood. Rather than relying on his wealth, she took the initiative to become a better engineer than he ever was, just to spite him.

Profession: Developmental Weapons Engineer

Equipment: HoloTablet, headset & comms pack, acid, poison, Tear Gas Grenades, Mk V Crescent Pistols, journal & pens, rope 

Special Abilities:

  • Genius Engineering: Mari is highly intelligent and analytical, taking after her father Roman. She’s innovative and can easily improvise solutions to most any mechanical or chemical issue. She often is racing to improve tech she emulates from Lumen, which is designed by her dad

  • Comms Master: Mari’s engineering expertise comes in handy with anything tech-related. Need an antenna for radios from a pile of junk? It’ll be up in ten minutes and better than standard issue. Need to hack into a major computer system? Mari’s in and out with all the info you need. She’s the basis of the team’s wealth of information and the one who can organize and analyze it all to draw conclusions

  • Strategist: Mari’s not a leader like her girlfriend Lei, but she knows how to use people’s strengths to their best advantage. She easily optimizes team dynamics and is constantly trying exercises to help coordinate them.

Pastimes: Mari loves to cook, especially with Lei, and to tinker and make and solve puzzles. Anything that keeps her mind active and challenged is good, and she often is fidgeting with a part or designing in her journal. Why a paper journal? Analog can’t be stolen or destroyed unless physically taken, and she’d guard her journal with her life.


 

Semtex Asato

Few rise from the underbelly of the Lower Cities to take control of their own lives, but that’s just what Semtex did. His drive comes out of his love for his sister and the gang family he left behind to join the UET. If he can make their lives better, then whatever he has to do is worth it.

Equipment: Super Gauntlets, grapple gun, utility belt, reinforced boots, two artificial fingers, military submachine gun, dried foods, grenades, flares, 1 charge, 1 remote detonator.

Special Abilities:

  • Hand-to-Hand training: Semtex is trained as a soldier, and is a part-time boxer, so he’s a dangerous combatant.

  • Explosive expertise: Semtex is trained in the usage and capabilities of explosives.

  • Super strength: due to his gauntlets Semtex has exceptional super strength when it comes to punching. His speed on the offensive is immense, and it’s a piece of modified tech that was discovered in the ruins. His punches easily exceed a ton of force per square inch.

Pastimes: Semtex loves boxing, and spending time with his little sister, although he does vape as well. He is interested in figuring out how to combine the weird items of the Ruins with modern technology

Lei Barren

The medic, the leader, and the heart of the JDS, Lei named the squadron after her lost brother Jersey. She joined the UET illegally at 16 to find him, and has since risen through the ranks to become a veteran officer and skilled member of the military. She refuses to give up until she finds her brother.

Equipment: Field kit including basic and survival first aid, surgical tools, anesthetics, sniper rifle, switchblade, dried food, lighter, cigarettes

Special Abilities:

  • Medical Expert: Lei has been trained as a field medic and a general surgeon, so she knows how to stitch someone up or cut them open, and pretty much anything anatomical you can think of. 

  • Survivalist: Lei has spent multiple weeks on expeditions into the Wastelands, and thus knows how to survive in most any wilderness situation. She’s stubborn and resilient and cares for her teammates because there’s almost always a better chance of success when people work together

  • Sniper: When Lei first joined the military, she was put as a sniper for her accuracy and precision. While she is no longer a combatant, she still maintains a high level of skill. This means she can pull some mean tricks if needed, especially from a distance

  • Veteran: Lei is well known and respected among the UET.

Pastimes: Lei is a fan of cooking, often trying new recipes with her girlfriend Mari and baking treats to keep morale up among the JDS. Known as the “mom” of the group, she also enjoys quilting and creating a personalized quilt for each of the JDS family. It reminds her of the family she lost.

 

Vigilax (Jalexa Martinez)

A former mercenary for Lumen, Vigilax felt cheated by her old superiors by unknowingly becoming the precursor to the Night Trader Project, which produced Noctura. Thus, she joined the UET to provide inside information and get her revenge.

Profession: Bodyguard/Assassin

Equipment: Reflective shades, Military sniper rifle, 2 Silenced Old Lumen Corp Pistols, Mecha Eye, 5 Combat Knives, military boots, custom combat vest, combat gloves.

Special Abilities:

  • Accuracy: Vigilax has incredible aim with her weapons, and can perform near superhuman feats of accuracy, even with her pistols.

  • Super Strength: Vigilax is capable of lifting over 800 pounds under normal circumstances due to her musculature, and physical modifications.

  • Rapid Healing: Vigilax heals from wounds much faster than normal humans do, and broken bones heal in a matter of a couple days rather than weeks.

  • Superior Speed: Vigilax is much faster than a normal human and can run around 45-60 miles per hour.

  • Reinforced Joints: Vigilax’s joints are reinforced with a titanium alloy, and help her bare great weights without getting crushed.

  • Combat Training: Vigilax is trained in self defense and hand to hand combat, and is able to hold her own against almost any foe with her expertise and experience.

  • Thermal Vision: Vigilax can pick up on thermal disturbances with her mechanical eye, assisting her as a sniper.

  • Reaction Time: Vigilax’s eye allows her to react to a larger volume of stimuli at a much faster speed than a normal human.

Pastimes: Vigilax likes flirting with people she finds attractive, as well as drinking. She enjoys weight lifting, wrestling, and rollerskating (though she doesn’t do the last much anymore). She also has a habit of enjoying spending time at the shooting range.

Jacob Derino

General Jacob Derino is the head of the UET and a force to be reckoned with. His goal to improve the quality of life for the Lower Cities through the regulation and oversight of large corporations and the High Cities. He has been met with fierce resistance, yet he presses on.

Conditions: Alcoholic

Wealth: Moderately Wealthy

Equipment: Grenades, mix of normal and gen-1/2 kinetic armor, combat sword, two combat knives, night vision visor, reinforced boots, utility belt, military machine gun, dried foods, prosthetic leg, flares, 1 Mark V and 1 Mark IV Crescent Pistol.

Special Abilities:

  • Combat Experience: Jacob has been in countless fights, and knows that regardless of what is thrown at him, that there are ways to win. He fights hard, dirty, and like a man who knows exactly what he’s doing. Though his fighting style is not martial arts based, he has essentially developed his own style of fighting.

  • Weapons Expertise: Jacob is capable with nearly all manner of firearms and blades, having used most of them, he is especially savvy at improvising them out of stuff he has lying around.

  • Thermal Vision: his helmet can see in infrared, and he can see heat while wearing it.

  • Radio Transmitter: In his helmet, Jacob has a scrambling frequency radio transmitter that can connect to military radios only.

  • Veteran: Jacob is well known and respected among the UET.

Pastimes: Jacob enjoys spending time with his soldiers, genuinely caring for them because of how poorly he was treated as a child. He also spends time planning with his inner circle, and checking in regularly with his teams. He rarely has downtime, but when he does, he likes to read books about the old world, and peace, especially fond of the Fae and such beings of emotion (particularly the generally friendly Seelie). He also enjoys humming tunes, and working to improve and modify his bionic leg, although Drakunov disapproves of him tampering with such delicate and complex machinery without knowing entirely what he’s doing.
